I’m pleased to announce a new album of songs from Pinnacle Tricks – Open Bracket Sketches – available as a free download on Bandcamp and all major streaming services.
This has been a fun one; recording off the back of my novel Australian Gothic being published, there was very little pressure to create anything that stuck to a specific theme. It’s an eclectic mix of songs – tuning my guitars in weird ways, trying a few strange scales, even attempting to wrap my head around negative harmony.
Anyway, links below as usual. Click the cover art to check it out. Enjoy.

Phone It In (Three Steps Back)
Home today with the sun shining bright
Through the morning and it rained last night
And I can’t remember what I was dreaming about
And the birds swing and dive in an unending flight
I took a picture, but the lighting’s all wrong
I drew a sketch, but the colours don’t belong
And I’m wondering now, “could I catch this memory?”
But then I think to myself, “what would be the point?”
Piffle Sticks (& My Head is Sick)
(instrumental)
Don’t Be So Negative (Orange You Glad?)
Don’t worry, mama
Don’t fret for drama
I’m already out that door
I met your standards
Gave you your flowers
‘spose I might’ve given you more
But not now
I’m so down
Not now
I’m so down
It’s over, my friend
Can’t stand your dead end
I’m round about flat on the floor and I said,
“I’ve run on empty
Ripped, torn and bleeding
Don’t think I can give anymore”
So come down from your ledge
See if you can dredge
Some joy from that black little heart
And free me from cords that
Bind me while sorrow
Finds me almost giving a damn
I don’t care
I’m not there
I don’t care
I’m not there
Electric Ice (Sudden Shock of the Cold)
(instrumental)
Tethys Sea (A Few Hours Ago)
By faith we walk alone
Trembling fear unknown
Narrow path wide as empty sea
Looking out into the setting sun
A few hours ago, now gone
Busy then, but it’s quiet now
As all joy runs into the silence
We remember when we didn’t know
And we resign to the infinite
As we dance between the finite
Along the way we’ll feel happiness
If we look and decide – it’s good
I didn’t say a thing
We remember when we didn’t know
I didn’t say a thing
We remember when we didn’t know
Industry (See How Sharp She Cuts)
(instrumental)
It Just Repeats (I Don’t Know How to Stop)
You’d know I’ve tried, just take a look
It’s not so easy when you’re shook
Up like a globe and made to look
Like everything is by the book
The falling snow should be a sign
Behind the glass, you think I’m fine
I’m catching sand, a rising sound
I’m running up but falling down
