Let me introduce a lad that I know,

He’s really quite nice, though it may not show.

His face and attire might give you a start –

With spider-leg hair, his name is Art.

Art

Art is alone, ‘spite what he’d intend.

It’s just that the other kids won’t be his friend.

Often turned off by his gloom and his quirk,

Art’s friendly approach is confused and won’t work!

He’d rather play piano than go play outside.

His talent excels with his focus applied.

If you ask Art politely, he’ll play you a song.

But careful! He’s cranky when he gets a note wrong!

Art’s mother makes lunch for him everyday,

But his food is what often keeps others away.

While kids his age feast on peanut butter sammies,

Art gets bruschetta, with feta and salami!

For a young boy of ten, he may seem quixotic.

And some of his habits appear quite exotic.

As he sits in a cafe, the adults all crow,

“What kind of small boy drinks espresso?!”

espresso

busking

He busked in the streets, until rain left him drenched.

So his latest ambition? To be like the French!

Art bought some paints to create like Monet.

His mother said, “Your hair’s a mess! Lose the beret!”

Art sulked on the sidewalk; his outlook was grim.

Would anyone ever be friends with him?

sulk

Then before him a sight that made his head swirl;

From round the corner walked the prettiest girl…

She wore a long dress and had hair quite like Art’s,

Beside her a creature with fur much like darts.

“This is Chops, my coyote. We’re out for a stroll.

Your name is Art? Well, my name is Lol.”

Art tried to smile – but he was quite shy!

Yet he realised that friendship had finally come by!

And it didn’t take long for Lol to see too

That being with Art was too good to be true!

Art thinks that Lol is really quite pretty.

Lol thinks Art’s teeth are cute, although gritty!

With Lol by his side, Art never feels sad

And with her fun times are sure to be had.
